1st GradeFirst grade artists have been up to a lot! They painted cardinals during the cold weather and even wrote about how they created their artwork using "First, Next, Then, and Last."
This week, Ms. Scott and Ms. Robledo (our school DIFF) taught a lesson together! First grade students learned how to drive the Sphero robots. We used the robots to paint with! We mixed the primary colors together to see what new colors they made. We have also been using Seesaw to take pictures of our artwork. Objectives:

2nd GradeSecond graders are working on artwork inspired by the artist Faith Ringgold. We read the book "Tar Beach" which is based on one of her story quilts. Students will be creating their own story quilts out of paper.
Second graders also used Seesaw to record videos talking about their artwork using our art terminology! Objectives:

3rd GradeThird grade artists created their very own kente cloths by weaving paper. We read the book "The Spider Weaver," which is a legend about how kente cloths were first started. Before that, they learned how to create clay birds in a nest using pinch, pull, and modeling techniques.

4th GradeFourth grade artists created cityscape collages based on the work of Romare Bearden, a famous African American artist. They also created freedom quilt squares using fractions. We read the book "Under the Quilt of Night" to learn more about freedom quilts.

5th GradeFifth grade artists created bowls using the slab method. They learned how to roll out clay using slats, then place it in a mold to create a bowl. We also learned about Pop Art and created our very own Pop Art cake slices using paper mache!
